One of our stops will be at the cozy Farm Gate Cider and Orchard. Experience the warmth of a family operated establishment where community is at the core or everything that they do.
“We plant, prune, graft, harvest, crush, bottle, label and sell together. Each bottle of cider is a testament to this: we won’t sell anything not worthy of our own dinner table. We also value local and sustainable agriculture. We don’t use pesticides, hormones, or other chemicals on our apples. We don’t add sulphites, preservatives, or additives to our cider. Our bottles are high-quality and reusable.”
Ottawa’s wine tour will spend 1 hour and a half at this location, enough time to fully experience the tour of the orchard, the cider making process, the 6 cider samples included, and the wood oven pizza to accompany them.
Our second stop will be in the depths of the Ottawa Valley at KIN Vineyards, where sustainability and biodynamic approaches underpin one of the most famous wineries in Ontario. You will have the opportunity to learn about the tremendous amount of effort that goes into the ancient art of viticulture as well as sample select wines and food pairings.
“Great wine truly is made in the vineyard and it is an adherence to this philosophy that informs our choice to farm sustainably, including both organic and biodynamic approaches whenever possible. Healthy soils, a biodiversity of flora and fauna creates a vineyard of balance and synergy … and ultimately, wines of substance, integrity, uniqueness of place and longevity. Our winemaking is focused on using experience and skill to achieve balance in the wines rather than to achieve a preconceived ideal.”
The wine tour will enjoy this stop for just over 1 hour, in order to learn about the vineyard, the wines, and most importantly to enjoy wine and food pairings.
Our next stop brings us to The Richmond Estate Winery, a local gem founded on the Zulu principle of Jabulani—or pure happiness. At The Richmond Estate Winery, the spirit of Jabulani—a Zulu word for happiness—is poured into every glass. Originally established in 2007, this stop on our tour has evolved from an intimate tasting patio into a premier estate dedicated to “The Wine That Brings People Together.” As we visit, you’ll experience the history of their first 2010 harvest firsthand while enjoying their modern bistro and scenic grounds. It’s a highlight of our journey that perfectly captures the transition from a passionate family vineyard to a sophisticated destination designed for making memories.
Ottawa’s wine tour will stop here for about 1 hour, to raise a glass, enjoy a selection of wines, shareable bites, and a lively atmosphere tailored for a fun and memorable experience.
We also love to visit Green Gables Vines, a family-run vineyard in Oxford Station that focuses on crafting “honest wine” that truly reflects the land. Since taking over the vineyard in 2013, the family has dedicated themselves to organic farming and hand-harvesting, resulting in exceptional small-batch white, red, and fruit-infused wines. It’s a wonderful spot to slow down and relax on their welcoming porch, offering a firsthand look at the passion and hard work that goes into every bottle.
“Sample our distinctive cold-climate wines, grown organically on our Oxford Station vineyard. Pair your tasting with a curated platter of local cheeses, cured meats, and seasonal accompaniments. ”
